Understanding the person, the role and the working environment.

A workplace assessment looks at how a person’s health, disability, injury or neurodivergent profile affects their ability to manage the practical demands of their job.

The assessment considers the interaction between the person, their role, their working environment and the occupations or tasks they are required to carry out.

This may include review of the employee’s role and core duties, physical demands, cognitive demands, workload, routines, deadlines, communication, supervision, equipment, workstation set up and environmental factors such as noise, lighting, layout or distractions.

The assessment may also consider fatigue, pain, stamina, pacing, confidence, current adjustments and whether existing support is working effectively.

Recommendations may include changes to duties, working patterns, workload management, equipment, workstation layout, communication, written instructions, supervision, environmental set up, training, assistive technology or review arrangements.

The aim is to identify practical barriers and provide realistic recommendations that help the employee work more safely, confidently and effectively.
