Practical assessment of physical function, equipment and work demands.
Ergonomic and functional assessments help identify how physical health, pain, fatigue, injury, disability or long term conditions affect work tasks.
An assessment may consider workstation set up, seating, desk layout, equipment, posture, positioning, upper limb symptoms, back or neck pain, lower limb symptoms, manual handling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, fatigue, stamina and physical work capacity.
I have undertaken Functional Capacity Evaluation training, which supports a structured approach to considering physical function, work capacity and the demands of a role.
This can help identify what a person may be able to manage safely, what may need to be adapted, and how work participation can be supported.
Recommendations may include ergonomic equipment, workstation changes, task modification, pacing strategies, altered working patterns, graded return to duties, manual handling advice, environmental changes or referral for further specialist input where needed.
The aim is to support safe, practical and sustainable work participation by matching the person’s functional abilities with the demands of their role.
